Coronation Street Stars Pay Heartfelt Tribute After Julie’s Emotional Exit
Coronation Street cast members Tony Maudsley and Jane Hazlegrove have paid touching tributes to actress Katy Cavanagh following her emotional final scenes as Julie Carp.
In Monday’s (May 5) heartbreaking episode, viewers watched as Julie – who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness – peacefully passed away beside a lake after a touching picnic with her sister, Eileen Grimshaw. The emotional moment unfolded when Eileen briefly stepped away, only to return and find Julie unresponsive.
Katy Cavanagh, who originally played Julie from 2008 to 2015, returned to the show earlier this year as part of her on-screen sister Eileen’s exit storyline. Her return after nearly a decade delighted fans, making her character’s farewell even more poignant.
Tony Maudsley, who plays George Shuttleworth, took to Instagram to post a heartfelt tribute. Sharing a smiling photo with Katy, he wrote:
”#RIP Julie Carp….Long live Katy Cavanagh-Jupe who is an absolute joy!!”
Co-star Jane Hazlegrove (Bernie Winter) added in the comments:
“She’s beautiful and oh so brilliant! Love. Katy Kavanagh-Jupe.”
Fans also flooded social media with messages of love and sadness, praising Katy’s performance and expressing their sorrow at her departure. One wrote:
“What an emotional episode. Fabulous acting by everyone. Very sad to see Katy leave, it has been lovely to have her back in the show.”
Another added:
“Very emotional epi tonight… I’ve always loved your character. Going to sorely miss you. Good luck with your new chapter.”
Coronation Street continues to air on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1, and is available to stream on ITVX.
